Empathica was formed as a Symphonic Power Metal project by Azathoth in collaboration with Diabolus I.M. and Nebula.
After an initial period of playing cover songs with a female vocalist the band started to compose on its own and the result was that the sound was no longer a Power metal one, but something bleaker and darker.
In this way, the band underwent its difficult change towards Symphonic Black Metal.
The vocalist and drummer then left the group and their roles were taken by Ball-Berith and Diabolus I.M., who became the lead singer.
Some time later the band decided to recruit a bassist (Morgoth) to substitute Diabolus I.M. so he could concentrate on his new position.
